Interface Modes

InvestLens ships two interchangeable interface skins that present the same features and the same data in different layouts. The choice is essentially visual — no analytics, page, or piece of data is added or removed by switching, so any task can be completed in either mode.

1. The two modes

  • Workspace — a denser, analytical layout designed like a research terminal: a compact navigation rail, a top command bar with global search and market status, a bottom status bar, and full-width content. It uses a cool blue-grey canvas with subtly tinted panels. This is the default when no preference has been set.
  • Legacy — the original, approachable dashboard layout: a light sidebar, centered content, and larger controls. You see this only after explicitly switching to it.

1.1 Where to switch

Use the Interface toggle in the sidebar, just below the Iris Terminal entry. Its label shows the current mode; clicking it flips modes.

1.2 Good to know

  • The active mode is a per-browser preference stored locally. It does not sync across devices or browsers, and it does not change your account, your data, or any analytics result.
  • The Legacy design may be discontinued in a future release. Workspace is the direction InvestLens is moving toward and new interface work is focused there, so prefer Workspace if you want the most current experience and do not rely on Legacy remaining available long-term.
  • The Reports dropdown below is the only Workspace-only surface, and it only re-exposes reports you already generated.

2. Reports dropdown (Workspace only)

The Workspace command bar has a Reports button that collects your finished portfolio analytics reports while they are still downloadable, so a report can be reopened without regenerating it.

  • It lists only your own reports that finished successfully and are still inside their one-hour availability window, newest first. Each row shows the portfolio name as it was when the report was generated, how much of the hour is left, and a View link that opens the report in a new tab. Hovering the portfolio name shows that portfolio's largest holdings.
  • Rows drop off the list when the hour runs out, so every link shown is a working one.
  • A small count on the button marks reports you have not looked at yet — not the total. Opening the dropdown clears it; it returns when another report finishes. Counts above nine show as "9+".
  • Which reports you have seen is remembered per browser and per signed-in user, and it survives signing out and closing the browser, so a report that finished before you signed out is still flagged as new on your next sign-in. It does not follow you to another browser or device. If a different user signs in on the same browser, the previous user's record is discarded.

In Legacy there is no equivalent. A finished report is reachable from the link in the status message on the page (or in the chat) where it was requested, so navigating away loses the link even though the report itself is still valid for the rest of the hour.

3. Market Mood

A strip shown above the content of every signed-in page, in both modes, giving a quick read on how the news is currently talking about a handful of tickers you pick. It is a mood indicator, not a signal.

3.1 What it shows

  • One marker per ticker in your basket, labelled with the ticker (or a friendly name for well-known indices), showing a sentiment score from −1 (bearish) through 0 (neutral) to +1 (bullish).
  • Colour carries the same information as the number: red for bearish, amber for neutral, green for bullish.
  • Hovering a marker gives the score, the mood label, and how many news articles it was averaged from.
  • A meta line gives the news day the readings are as of, and the total article count.
  • A ticker with no usable news that day is greyed out with a short reason (for example, no articles available) rather than being hidden or shown as zero.

3.2 Managing your basket

  • Add a ticker with the + control, which opens a ticker search.
  • Remove a ticker with the − control on its marker.
  • You can keep up to five tickers; the + control disappears at the limit.

The basket is saved to your account, so it persists across sessions and pages. New accounts start with a default set of broad market ETFs.

3.3 Relationship to other readings

The score is the average sentiment of the latest day of news headlines for a ticker. The News Sentiment reading on an asset snapshot — both the card opened from My Assets and the card Iris can place in a conversation — is the same measure on the same scale, computed by the same pipeline, so the two never disagree about an asset.
